Their action is reminiscent to when electricity will sudden come up after long period of darkness and people will shout UP NEPA.
Such hailing is a sign that the appointment of Chief Sunny Onuesoke has replaced light with darkness. In order words, happiness and progress is on the way for the people of Delta State as the development they have been yearning for will soon be at their door step.
The pronouncement of his appointment was heralded with joy because Onuesoke who is Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain and one time Delta state governorship aspirant is a politician who had distinguished himself in all aspects. He is a man whom the people of Delta State respect so much because of what he had done for the people of Delta State. His action in the past had shown that government positions are not meant to enrich one but to serve the people.
Notwithstanding the fact that some Deltans failed to see who this veteran is and decided otherwise about his person, yet he has continue to show his love to his people through the Onuesoke Foundation which has done a lot both in education and the restoration of their environment which had reduced the negative effect of climate change on the people.
Through Onuesoke Foundation, he had devoted himself totally and sparing nothing in his quest at filling up the gap left by the government of the state on the betterment of the lives of Delta state children. He had given financial, material, psychological and moral support to the restoration of children who wallow in abject poverty and absolute neglect.
He is a passionate environmentalist and philanthropist. Born in January many decades ago in Agbhara-Otor, Ughelli South, Delta State, he is a dedicated Urhobo leader whose name transversed across the eight Urhobo local government areas of Delta State and beyond owing to his massive contribution to the growth and development of the urhobo land.
Chief Sunny Onuesoke is an illustrious Urhobo son who has made his mark in both the public and private sectors in Delta state, thereby bringing pride and prestige to the Urhobo people particular and Delta state in general.
As a public man, Chief Sunny Onuesoke is known for excellence in the discharge of his service as Special Project Director, Governor’s Office Asaba. A position he held during the Uduaghan’s administration. He was able to carve a niche for himself as an astute and pragmatic public servant who will stop at nothing but the very best, thereby creating an enduring legacy of selflessness, commitment and dedication which is not easy to come by in present day public men.
The story of Chief Onuesoke cannot be complete without mention given to his pet projects which holds a very special place in his heart. They are his Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Onuesoke Foundation, a television Program with Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) Warri- “Climate Change and You” and Rural Development Programs for Rural Communities which provide assessment and felt needs for rural communities.
One of his pet project which impacted on the people is the “MOBILE LIBRARY”, project known as “Rural Child Must Read (RCMR)” established for children in Rural communities to provide rural children with qualitative education. His dream of establishing the Library is to motivate the rural children to imbibe reading culture and improve their academic performance which has long been neglected by government and society.
He had through the foundation” FREE SCHOOL UNIFORMS DONATION PROJECT” provided no fewer than 3,000 rural school children with at least two pairs of school uniforms to motivate them to go to school, provided bore hole for schools, provided rural classrooms with teaching aids, renovated dilapidated schools in rural communities and many other felt needs of the rural children.
His Non-Governmental Organisation, Onuesoke Foundation, has been a community name around the urhobo speaking area of Delta State hence it has been an instrument of bridging the gap with some issues that had been of oversight to government in rural development and capacity building for rural folks of Urhobo Land.
A cursory look at Onuesoke achievements revealed that through Onuesoke Foundation, between 2013 and 2014, he provided at least two pairs of uniform to school pupils of ten rural schools in Delta State, provided Egburie Primary School located at Ozoro with pipe borne water.
In 2014, his foundation built a garden in the premises of Delta Broadcasting Service, Warri, in 2014, his foundation built another garden at the premises of Nana Model Girls College, Warri and in the same year he provided teaching aids materials to Emadadja Secondary School.
Because he wanted to impart education on the children of the less privilege, Onuesoke through Onuesoke Foundation provided a mobile library which move from one rural community to the other providing books for children to enrich and broaden their academic level. This is first of his kind in Delta State.
To protect effect of environment impact due to climate change on the people, Onuesoke Foundation engaged in tree planting exercise. In our last count, no fewer than hundred trees had been planted through Onuesoke Foundation.
All said and done and taking the achievement of Chief Sunny Onuesoke into consideration, no wonder the people jubilated enmass when his appointment was announced by the Delta State government.
Thinking along the same line with the jubilating crowd one may not be wrong to say, “ If Chief Sunny Onuesoke could provide so much to better the lives of the people as an individual, it means with his appointment as Projects Director to Delta State Government the people are rest assured that more goodies will be deliver to them as a the DAWN OF NEW ERA HAS ARRIVED.”
