People of Ughelli community, Delta State, were on celebration mood for seven days when Political Adviser to Delta State Governor Chief (Barr.) Fred Okiemute Majemite and his wife, Chief (Mrs) Edesiri Majemite mark the conferment of traditional chieftaincy known in Urhobo language as Olorogun .
Taking the large audience and personalities attendance into consideration, the conferment ceremony could be described as second to none in the history of Ughelli chieftaincy conferment ceremony. Who is who in Urhobo community and Ughelli kingdom were at attendant. Conspicuously present were members of Delta State House of Assembly Hon Tim Ogefure, Hon Talib Tebitie, Hon Denis Omovie, and former member of House Representative, Chief Solomon Ahwinanhwin Foreign Adviser to Delta State Governor, Mr Omo Djeba. No fewer than 100 Chiefs otherwise known as Olorogun were present to add colour to the celebration with their sparking white attire. To be precise, the lists of personalities that attended the event were endless.

The confirmation ceremony was kick started with a visit to the Palace of Monarch of Ughelli HRM Wilson Oharisi III for the initiation of Chief Edesiri as traditional chief of the Kingdom of Ughelli Palace. Fred Majemite who had been initiated eleven years ago escorted his to the palace for initiation.

During the confirmation ceremony at the Palace of the Monarch, Oharisi III prayed for Fred Majemite and his wife wishing them long life and prosperity in life. The monarch who was elated with the activities of the Majemites in their contribution towards the development of Ughelli community and environs prayed that no woman should come between Majemite and his wife.

According to him, ” You and your wife according to the words of God are joined together and no one can separate you. You will live in good health. God will bless you with more wealth. Both of you should understand yourselves. As you progress in the present of your children, that is how your children will progress in your present.

“This chieftaincy title you are taking will lead to more progress. Anywhere there is finger of God no one can disrupt it. The name I gave you is ‘Okiemute ro’ Ovie’ meaning Gods time has come. Now that it is God’s time no one can stop it.”

Speaking to Urhobotoday, father of Chief Edesiri Majemite, Chief D M Siakpere described the conferment of Chieftaincy title on his daughter as a well deserve achievement, adding that his daughter is a graduate of many years ago, an academician, a very responsible lady and a mother of many children.

“I want to say that the son is a graduate of Cambridge University. She is a pride to all the children. Her son read Law and now he is practicing in Lagos. It is a pride unto me the father of Edesiri and pride to her husband because Edesiri had performed brilliantly well. We are very proud of her,” elated Siakpere said.
Her mother, Christiana Siapkere who also described Edesiri as responsible daughter said she is very proud of her daughter.

“I am very proud of her. He is a very responsible daughter and she has brought up children in very responsible way. That is why she has been able to produce a lawyer that had been called to bar and is already practicing. We are all very happy and proud of her,” she stressed.

Chief Fred Majemite was filled with joy as important visitors from all walks of life troop to his country at home at Ughelli to celebrate with him.
Speaking to Urhobotoday, Majemite said, “My wife, Chief (Mrs) Edesiri Majemite just had the conferment of her title today as the Edesiri ro’ vie of Ughelli Kingdom. I have celebrated my title eleven years ago. I just decide to celebrate with her.

“I feel great. For your kingdom to recognize the little you have done for them they have to confer a traditional title on you as sign of honour and that is what we are celebrating. I am happy for her. It showed that she has been a wonderful wife to the Kingdom and I will also enjoin her to continue with what she has been doing. She is a great woman of great virtues. I am happy with her.”

Majemited who disclosed that their eleven years marriage had been a happy one said, “If we are still together it showed that the marriage is successful. She has been a patient woman. She has a virtue of a woman. She very understands in spite of my short comings. She is not only a wife, she is a mother. I do not have a mother again.”
