“Our Records are Intact” – Central Bank Assures Stakeholders after Fire Outbreak

LAGOS MARCH 26TH (URHOBOTODAY)- The fire outbreak at the Central Bank of Nigeria office in Lagos yesterday, reportedly destroyed property worth millions of naira.
It was gathered that the fire broke out at about 5.10 pm, Tuesday as workers were about moving documents and other sensitive items to its new building.

According to eyewitnesses, a passer-by who noticed that smoke coming out from the affected floor had raised the alarm, which made staff of the apex bank who had closed for the day to scamper for safety.
Confirming the fire incident, the Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Mr. Rasak Fadipe, said the fire service got an emergency call that the apex bank was on fire around 5:45 pm after the fire started around 5:10 pm.
Fadipe, who confirmed the incident, said two fire trucks from Onikan and Sari Iganmu stations with 10,000 litres of water each were drafted to the scene, after information got to the Service.
The CBN has however assured that no record was lost in the incident, adding that the incident will not affect the transaction.
According to a statement signed by Isaac Okoroafor for the Director, Corporate Communications Department, “the fire, which occurred on the first floor of the building, has been put out by a combined team of fire fighters from the CBN and other institutions. We wish to assure our numerous stakeholders that the records of the bank are intact, as the bank has an effective backup of all its records as part of our disaster recovery infrastructure.”
