Delta State to Host 12km Walk for Life Exercise for Deltans

Delta State Government has signed an agreement with HotSports Nigeria Limited, a foremost sports marketing and production company, as the marketing consultant for the maiden edition of the Annual Work For Life to be hosted by the state on May 29.
In his opening remark at the signing ceremony held in Asaba, Delta State on Friday, the state Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, represented by Commissioner for Information, Chike Ogeah, explained that the Annual Work For Life programme is in line with the human capital development agenda of the Uduaghan administration, aimed at encouraging the civil servants and members of the public in general to embrace walking as one of the best ways to maintain good health.
“The idea is to use the programme as a practical way of demonstrating that there are so many health benefits associated with walking as an exercise, chief of which is that it helps to improve your health and prevent terminal ailments. A lot of people have dropped dead for lack of regular exercise. And for us in Delta State, it is a way of maintaining a fit and productive workforce,” Uduaghan said.

The Governor urged members of the public to participate in the twelve kilometres exercise that will feature men and women of all ages in an atmosphere of conviviality with the theme Walk for peace, love and charity.
He said the choice of HotSports as the marketing consultant was informed by the impressive record of the company in sports marketing and production. Events like this, according to him, require the support and commitment of corporate sponsors. He expressed confidence that the marketing consultant would help actualize that objective.
Explaining the modalities for the event, the Director of Orientation, Willy Sowho, said there would be a congregation of participants at the Squash Court at Government House in Asaba on Monday, May 27, 2013 for medicals.
He emphasized that all participants would go through medical tests before clearance could be obtained for participation. This is to ensure all participants are fit for the event.
He mentioned that the state governor would be leading other members of his cabinet to take part in the exercise that would be spiced with a lot of entertainment, Delta State being the home of entertainment in Nigeria.
Managing Director, HotSports, Taye Ige, pledged his company’s commitment to the success of the event.
