LAGOS OCTOBER 9TH (URHOBOTODAY)- Urhobos living in United Kingdom were on a celebration mood following the inauguration and swearing in of new members of executive of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), United Kingdom branch by President General of Urhobo Progress Union(UPU) Worldwide, Chief (Engr) Joseph Orode Omene.
The new members of Executive expected to be in office for the next three years is headed by the newly elected President-General of UPU in United Kingdom, Chief (Barrister) Emmanuel Okpako Ganiga.
The inauguration and swearing in ceremony of the new members of executive which was performed on August 27th, 2016 during an annual convention of the Union held at Gans Banquet Hall, number 3, Hatcham Road, London witnessed the present of Urhobo personalities from all walks of life.

Speaking during the inauguration, President-General of UPU Worldwide, Chief Joseph Omene appealed to Urhobos living in United Kingdom to support the newly sworn in members of executive of UPU in United Kingdom, adding that Urhobos in the United Kingdom should form a united front to create room for development and protection against external forces.

He urged them to ignore claim by some decedents to organize another election, stressing that the majority has spoken with the election of the new members of executive.
Speaking in the same vein, the newly elected President-General of UPU in United Kingdom, Chief (Barrister) Emmanuel Okpako Ganiga appealed to Urhobos based in United Kingdom to come together as one, adding that ones there is unity among them a lot will be achieved.
“We are working hard to bring everybody together. If we are together we will be able to form a formidable front against external forces and move on progressively,” he told Urhobotoday correspondence in United Kingdom.
Appealing to Urhobo indigenes abroad to support UPU Headquarters back home, Ganiga advised Urhobos living overseas to be involve in community projects for the development of Urhobo communities.
“They should go home often and be involve in community projects. They should create scholarships scheme and jobs for the youths back home. In United Kingdom, ninety percent of employment is created by private companies. I want them to borrow leaf from what they are experiencing here. If they can partner with the community back home, they should be able to create companies that will provide jobs that will be of great advantage to the people and it will also go a long way for the development of our community back home,” he stated.

Thus, following a General Election of UPU, United Kingdom branch held on the 7th of August 2016 and subsequent inauguration of officers at the Annual Convention by the President General of UPU worldwide, Chief (Engineer) Joseph Orode Omene JP, the under listed officers who were duly elected are serve as members of the National Executive Council of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), United Kingdom for the next three years.
