Okowa Raises Alarm Over Upsurge of Unemployment in Delta State

LAGOS AUGUST 23RD (URHOBOTODAY)-Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa at the weekend raised the alarm over the rate of unemployment in the state which has increased to 60 per cent.
The governor who made the disclosure at during the 18th annual Ogwa Ika ceremony held in Agbor, said the situation in regard to unemployment in the state has gotten worse by the day and called for collaborative efforts of Deltans to tackle the problem.

Noting that the problem of creation of jobs and job opportunities can be tackled, Okowa reiterated that the next stage of youths employment programme would soon be announced and appealed to the beneficiaries to justify the huge investment of the state government.
His words; “Lagos-Asaba road project will be completed by December and other road projects across the state will be receiving the state government’s attention, despite the current situation that had affected the state’s revenue”.
Emphasising that the state government was currently passing through difficult times, the governor expressed optimism that there will be improvement, adding, “The state government received N3billion against what it used to in the time past, while the state government’s workers’ salaries stood at N6.7billion monthly.”
Meanwhile, the governor has approved the renovation of the dilapidated Agbor Central Hospital.
Okowa said the approval for the hospital’s renovation became necessary considering its state of dilapidation.
In another development, in its quest to improve the security network, return night life and boost commercial activities in Asaba, the state government has restored street lights with high capacity sub-station transformers in the state while commencing the reconnection of the vandalized electric cable.
The state government, who also promised to extend electricity to the flyover, where construction of link road and beautification of the Ekumeku Roundabout is ongoing, also summoned the owner of an ongoing petrol station along the Ibusa Road, Asaba, for questioning over alleged damage done to public electric cable.
