LAGOS MARCH 18TH (URHOBOTODAY)- Few days after Lekki bank robbery in which no fewer than four people lost their lives, the Lagos State Police Command has vowed to arrest and bring to justice those involved in the dastardly act.
The Police Command also faulted the Nation Newspaper’s publication which quoted Lagos Police boss as saying the bank robbery was executed by professionals.

Expressing its eagerness to round up the robbers, the Police in a statement signed by Lagos State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) Mr. Ken Nwosu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), assured the public that even as they mourn the victims of the robbery especially three of their gallant officers who though not on duty at the bank elected of their own volition to confront the bandits in order to avert the robbery, investigations aimed at apprehending the robbers are still in top gear.
“We also wish to assure the general public that no effort will be spared to round up those robbers who came on that fateful day to cause pain of monumental proportions to our peace loving and hardworking people. They will definitely hear from us because here in Lagos State Police Command, we do not forgive or forget any crime or criminality no matter how long it takes to arrest offenders. This case under reference will not be an exception,” he maintained.
He enjoined members of the public with useful information and actionable intelligence that will lead to the arrest of the robbers and other criminals to avail the police of such so that together they can keep Lagos and its immediate environs safe for businesses and leisure to thrive.
He, however, expressed dismay to what he described as a misleading, inaccurate and sensational publication by The Nation Newspaper of Tuesday, 17th March, 2015 on page 9 titled, “Lekki Robbery: Gunmen were Professionals, Says Police Chief”.
According to the Lagos Police Image Maker, the reporter in question quoting some unnamed Police sources claimed that the Police believe that the robbers that carried out the robbery of Thursday 12th March, 2015 at a branch of one of the banks on Admiralty Way, Lekki, Phase 1 have military background.
“This report is not only misleading, inaccurate and mischievous but capable of threatening the cordial inter-agency collaboration and cooperation existing amongst the Security Agencies in Lagos which the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command CP. CK. Aderanti has been pursuing passionately in conjunction with heads of other Security Agencies especially the three arms of the Military.
“For the purposes of clarity and to clear all ambiguities, the Command does not for now know the identity or background of the armed robbers as investigations are still ongoing. Therefore, for any Newspaper at all let alone The Nation to hide under the law of secrecy of source to want to create problems where obviously there is none is a great disservice not only to the peace loving people of Lagos but also humanity at large. The Command expects The Nation to correct this misinformation,” the statement read.
