Kogi: Okene Stand Still as Soldiers Battle Suspected Religious Insurgents
LAGOS OCTOBER 13TH (URHOBOTODAY)-There is confusion and all activities stand still as soldiers angaged suspected insurgents in gun battle at Inike axis in Okene local government area of Kogi state.
It was learnt that trouble started at about 5 am when soldiers mobilized to the area to arrest some members of the group following intelligence reports.
The group, it was learnt opened fire upon sighting the soldiers injuring one of them (soldiers) while the soldiers in turn engaged them in gun duel and reportedly burnt down their mosque.
It is not yet clear, the number of casualties as the gun battle is still said to be ongoing.
Residents of the area are said to have scampered for safety.
When contacted, Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, Ovye Aya William, who confirmed the incident said it is the army that is embarking on a raid in the area.
Aya said Okene is currently under standstill following the development.
