LAGOS MARCH 23RD (URHOBOTODAY)-Reports reaching the stables of elombah.com indicates that the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godwill Akpabio has reportedly collapsed and was rushed to a hospital in the UK.
The Governor who is Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Part, PDP Governors Forum, was said to have collapsed yesterday at a function in the state.
However, his close aides, family members and the Peoples Democratic Party family are said to be keeping the news top secret in order not to generate media hype.
A source close to the Governor who spoke but pleaded anonymity confirmed Akpabio’s collapse stating that he was indeed rushed to an undisclosed hospital in the UK.
It is yet unclear what would have led to the Governors collapse but it might not be unconnected with the defection of former Governor Ubong Victor Attah from the ruling PDP to the opposition All Progressives Congress.
The former governor, who is a founding member of Nigeria’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and is a member of the party’s Board of Trustees, spoke at a rally of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, in Uyo, the state capital where he for the first time since leaving office in 2007, launched a scathing criticism on Governor Akpabio, calling his political endeavors hypocritical and deceitful.
