Delta: Gas Explosion Rocks Residence of Nation Newspapers’ Correspondent
LAGOS AUGUST 20TH (URHOBOTODAY)-The family of Polycarp Orosevwota, Delta State correspondent of The Nation newspapers narrowly escaped death on Tuesday evening when a gas cylinder exploded in his residence.
Narrating his ordeal to Urhobotoday, an online medium, Polycarp who is Ughelli correspondent of Nation newspapers and Chairman of Ughelli correspondent chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalist ( NUJ), said the explosion occurred when his sister in-law tried to ignite a cooking gas unknown to her that the kitchen was already saturated with gas from the gas cylinder which was leaking.
According to him, six of his family members including his son and less than 2years old daughter were in the living room when his sister in-law went to the kitchen to prepare lunch oblivious to the fact that the cylinder was leaking.
“Immediately she struck the matches, the gas cylinder exploded with a loud bang that shook the entire building and engulfed my apartment and other surrounding flats in flames,” Polycarp who was still in shock explained to Urhobotoday.
Although no life was lost in the incident, his children and relatives at the apartment the time the incident occurred, sustained various degrees of burns and are currently receiving medical attention at a private clinic in Ughelli.
