Azazi’s Relative, 2 Others Perish In Boat Mishaps In Bayelsa

LATE AZAZI

LAGOS AUGUST 12TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Three persons, including a relative of the late former National Security Advisor, General Owoye Andrew Azazi, lost their lives in separate boat mishaps in Bayelsa State on Friday.
Two of the victims were killed at Ekeremor council area while the third was killed at Sagbama.

One of those killed at Ekeremor was identified as Felix Azazi, a relative of the late General Azazi who died December 15, 2012 in a helicopter accident. The other casualty in Ekeremor was described simply as an Urhobo man.
The two victims were reportedly traveling to Ojobo in Delta State when their boat capsized about 7.30 p.m. on Friday. An eyewitness said the boat capsized while trying to pass another boat in front of Ekeremor police post.
The deceased Urhobo man was said to be a landlord in Warri and was accompanying his tenant, Mr. Azazi, to a function when the accident happened.
The other boat mishap, which claimed the life of a woman, also occurred on Friday at 8 p.m. at Agbere in Sagbama council area. The woman’s death resulted from a collision between a wooden boat and a speedboat. An eyewitness blamed the accident on poor visibility.
SaharaReporters was not able to obtain the name of the deceased woman. But a police source in the area said the woman was traveling from the Oshikwenike area of Ekeremor when she met her untimely death. The police source added that he did not know if the passengers were wearing life jackets when the accident occurred. He however disclosed that most marine transport passengers shun life jackets even when ordered to wear them.
When contacted, the state police public relations officer, Alex Akhigbe, only confirmed the Sagbama boat mishap. Mr. Akhigbe said he was not aware of the Ekeremor accident.
