LAGOS JANUARY 13TH (URHOBOTODAY)-The Ag. Executive Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has exonerated former President Goodluck Jonathan from any complexity in the ongoing investigation of the fraudulent sharing $2.1bn arms scandal.
Addressing members of Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) at Ikeja, Lagos on Monday, the EFCC Boss said there is no case against Goodluck Jonathan with respect to the abuse of the fund, adding that although Jonathan gave approval for disbursement of the money, but it was not used for what Jonathan approved it for.
“According to the books, the money was not used for what Jonathan approved it for so there is no case against him,” Magu affirmed.
Debunking allegations of EFCC making arrest before investigation, Magu argued, “.In all the cases, we conduct preliminary investigation. If it is a company, we unveil the person behind it. If it is money we trace it to your account. We don’t just carry people and dump them. We give the accused a chance to talk and in the process more would be disclosed that is unknown to us. So it is necessary to follow up to strengthen what we have.”
He equally affirmed that nobody is detained for more than 10 to 15 days, adding that in most cases the anti-corruption agency obtain relevant court orders when it is longer than necessary.
He complained of the commission facing a lot of challenges such as few available personnel and the court system.
“Most times when we take the case to court, it is out of our hands and in the hands of the judicial system. Our cases keeps being prolonged for months and years due to processes and appeal upon appeal. Sometimes the media should also put pressure on the judiciary to carry out the sentencing faster so justice can prevail for the people to see.”

  1. Now that former President Goodluck Jonathan has been vindicated by the Acting Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, that the commission had no case against him, what next will his arch-enemies and detractors say? Since the Dasuki financial scandal broke out the enemies of the amiable ex-President Jonathan had used all manner of unprintable words to describe him as if it was a crime for him to have approved money to execute a genuine project which was diverted by the executor! Even though the case of former President Jonathan was almost the same with that of former Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos who was accused of approving N78m for a website that cost less than N100,000 and N500m for two boreholes that cost less than N400,000 and who during his screening in the Senate said, “I don’t sign cheques” (sic), the South-West press didn’t say anything about it till date but kept on feasting on the Dusakigate and Jonathan! They kept calling for the arrest of Jonathan but Fashola with similar case is a serving minister in this administration that claim to be fighting corruption. What is the offence of former President Jonathan that the South-west press wouldn’t allow him to have peace in Nigeria? Abrahim Magu and the EFCC had made it clear to all Nigerians and the entire world that Jonathan has no case to answer because he didn’t authorize Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd) to divert the money he approved to other uses! Those who wanted Jonathan be tore and shredded to pieces for an offence he didn’t know anything about should bury their ugly faces in shame forever!
