‘You Cannot Pull Down Jonathan’, Onuesoke Tells Kwankwaso

Sunny Onuesoke

LAGOS SEPTEMBER 19TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship aspirant in 2007 general election, Chief Sunny Onuesoke lashed at Governor of Kano State Rabiu Kwankwaso for describing President Goodluck Jonathan as lacking the political will to tackle Boko Haram insurgency and witch-hunting All Progressives Congress (APC) governors due to his presidential ambition.
Reacting to the Kwankwaso’s allegations in a press statement made available to media houses, Onuesoke said Kwankwaso cannot pull down President Goodluck Jonathan because of his over-ambition, stressing that if Kankwaso is in Jonathan’s shoes he would not have done one-tenth in curbing security challenges in Nigeria.
“No one will handle Nigeria better than Jonathan in this very condition of self inflicted virus that is bedeviling the nation,” he noted.
Onuesoke who is also the Country Director of Network for Good Governance (N4GG) said if Northern leaders like Kwankwaso were up and doing in their responsibilities by providing their people with the basic necessities of life Boko Haram would not have existed and the people would have been living in peace.
“Kwankwaso was a governor in 1999 to 2003. He was a Minister of Defence before he won his second term election in 2011. All these years he was in the PDP. To him the PDP was the party to beat, the PDP was a national party, the PDP was the only party that can take Nigeria to the next level, the PDP was the epitome of democracy and good governance, but when his personal interest clashed with some powers in the PDP, he left PDP and he is today telling us that PDP is made up of evil men,” Onuesoke disclosed, just as he alleged that Kwankwaso is part of what is wrong with Nigeria.
He wondered why Kwankwaso is accusing Jonathan falsely when his people decided to grow the seed of insecurity and poverty in their region at a time when other people are looking for ways to improve their lives by controlling their resources, adding that the Kano State Governor and his co travelers are making Jonathan much popular and his second term election more easier.
Onuesoke marveled why Kwankwaso is putting the blame of Boko Haram insurgent at the door step of Jonathan when the Minister of Defence, National Security Adviser and Inspector General of Police who suppose to maintain peace and order in the country are from the North.
“The states where the insurgents are creating problems have governors who collect security votes that run into billions of naira, what are their roles and duties? If the governors have no roles to play and all these are on the shoulders of the president alone, then let us abolish the office of the governors, minister of defence and national security advisers among others and concentrate solely on the president,” Onuesoke argued
