In an attempt to put Urhobo Nation in the main stream of Nigerian politics, group under the aegis of Urhobo Political Congress (UPC) has started making moves and strategising towards position Urhobo nation in forefront of Nigerian politics come 2015.
To achieve their ambition, the group met at Ekpan, Delta State on Thursday where salient issues were deliberated upon on how to consolidate the Urhobos in Delta politics in particular and Nigerian politics in general.

Addressing anxious journalists after arising from a close door meeting, the National Youth Leader of Urhobo Political Congress (UPC) Olorogun Omovudu Jaro Egbo disclosed that the group met in order to strategise on the way forward as they march towards 2015, adding that there is need for the group to do more work, strategise and talk less.
“We met to strategise on the way forward for Urhobo nation as we march towards 2015. There is need to do more work, more strategy and less talk. We need to meet from time to time to see that Urhobo having left the opposition need to consolidate her position in Delta State and in Nigeria in general,” Jaro Egbo disclosed.
He further explained that they have resolved to continue to contact their people, work more and try as much as possible not to be distracted by some other persons who belonged to splinter groups that have gone moribund but are now trying to resuscitate them.
Jaro Egbo who said they are working cautiously so as to avoid pitfalls, pointed out that having taking decision to give the leadership of the group to a man like Chief Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege showed their seriousness of purpose, adding that the decision to make him the head of the group is an anonymous decision that has the backings of the elders, followers and everybody concern.
“We felt that we should make haste slowly. As such we are meeting again on Thursday to take a final decision to see that people are well fitted in their various positions. We also intend to do some kind of joggling to see that we bring more life into the group,” Jaro Egbo affirmed.
Responding to question urging him to give an insight into the focus of the Urhobo Political Congress (UPC) vis-a-vis Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) in respect of 2015 general election, Jaro Egbo who is a personal aide to Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan on the affairs of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) disclosed, “The incite is well clear. We saw in October 12, 2013, where the whole Urhobo nation voted overwhelmingly for the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP} during the Delta Central Senatorial bye-election.
“The decision was a deliberate one. It was a decision taking by the UPU and UPC that will not have anything to do with senseless opposition. From the first republic we have always been in the main stream political parties. From NPC to NCNC to NPN and SDP we have always been in the main stream politics. What we are doing now is to consolidate our position to ensure that having voted for PDP, what are the things that will come in being in the majority party. These are some of the things we decided.
“You know that we did some leadership change because things where not going well and we are also looking at situation where organs that were not performing too well would be corrected so that we can move forward.”
He, however, divulged that to some extent they have not concluded on the issue of elevating Chief Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege from the position of Acting Chairman of UPC to substantive one because they wanted to subject the issue to a larger body so as to carry everyone along.
