UPU Election: Edoja Rebukes Aziza Leadership, Enjoins Urhobos to Vote Wisely

LAGOS DECEMBER 3RD (URHOBOTODAY)- Senatorial aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded Delta Central Senatorial by-election, Hon Solomon Edoja has charged Urhobos voting in the December 7 Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) election to use their votes wisely and vote for someone with the capability of opening doors for Urhobo nation.
Edoja in a phone chat with our correspondent disclosed UPU under the leadership of Chief Patrick Aziza has been very docile.
“Urhobo kingdoms are in tatters and as I speak to you, Kokori community is almost being wiped out and the UPU has not intervened or spoken to address the situation. People are being dislodged everyday in the community.
“I have not met Aziza personally, but I think the Urhobos need to look inward and go beyond the rhetoric of sentiments and partisan politics. The election has nothing to do with PDP or APC, but about the destiny and future of the Urhobo nation rather than being trivialized and reduced to pecuniary interest.
“Whoever that would emerge as UPU President General, come this weekend when the election holds, be it Aziza or Majoroh, that individual should endeavour to come in with fresh ideas that would carry the Urhobos to the next level at least if he is not improving our situation, he should not make our situation worse because our situation has become worse under the current leadership of UPU.
“He should have a think-tank that is deep in thought because right now, the Urhobos are not strategic as we have been dislodged in even our own State. Anyone that wants to aspire to the leadership of the Urhobo nation must be a door opener. Someone who when he speaks, people would listen and has the pedigree, ability to reach out to those in authority, and be influential among the Urhobos.”
On the candidacy of Arch. O.C Majoroh as President General, he said, “Majoroh has not held the position of President-General before, so I can’t really judge him just like when Chief Aziza came in for the first time, we expected lots from him, but in a nutshell, Urhobos need someone that can actually open doors for them and not an albatross,” he added.
