Ugborodo Elders Disagree with Uduaghan over Safety of Alleged Missing $6m

Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan

LAGOS JANUARY 24TH (URHOBOTODAY) — THE lingering Ugborodo crisis took a twist, yesterday, with the Council of Elders of the community, disagreeing with Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, that the $6 million released by Chevron Nigeria Limited for the development of the New Ugborodo Town Project was safe in an escrow account.
The council, in a statement by its Secretary, Mr. Francis Uwawah, argued that since 2008 when the money was released, till now, there was enough time for the money to have been used to execute the project for which it was meant.
The elders said: “Between 2008 and 2011 when there was no leadership crisis in Ugborodo, what would have possibly prevented the use of the money for the intended purpose? It thus means that keeping the said money in the said escrow account cannot be for good reasons.
Uwawah said that neither the registered Trustee, nor the Council of Elders, and even the entire community was aware of where the said money was kept.
