Stay Clear of Politics, Police Warns Vigilante Groups in Delta State

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba

Lagos February 25th (urhobotoday)-THE POLICE have warned vigilante outfits in community policing in Delta State not to identify with any political party or political aspirant.
The vigilante outfits also were advised to be neutral in political activities in the state.

During the inauguration of Ugborikoko Vigilante Outfit in Uvwie Local Government Area recently, C.S.P Shawulu Danmanman, the Divisional Police Officer in charge Ugberikoko Police Divisional Headquarters warned that it was an offence for vigilante outfits to be in possession of fire arms and to create detention centres or trial courts and that it is also a crime for vigilante outfits to extort money from members of the public whose fundamental human right he said must be protected at all times.
The DPO of Ugborikoko Police Divisional Headquarters while stressing the need for members of vigilante outfits to be discipline at all times, urged them to be role model in the communities where they operate.
“The most challenging thing about the vigilante job is that while you are giving recognition, approval, authority and support in the maintenance of peace and security, you are also being monitored like any other person in the community.
“For you are not above the law,” he said. The CSP, who again warned that suspected criminals should not be molested or battered, advised vigilante security outfits to arrest suspected criminals and hand them over to the police immediately for prosecution and that the vigilante outfits must be prepared to assist the police in the prosecution of the suspected criminals in law courts.
