Foul smell of decaying corpses allegedly dumped at the abandoned Asaba textile mill on Abraka Road, Asaba, Delta State has sacked residents of the area.
LEADERSHIP checks revealed that the unbearable offensive odour and the presence of big flies in the premises of the mill have made the area uninhabitable.
Sources said that there have been efforts by the state government in the last six years to revive the mill so as to boost the economy of the state.
While this is ongoing, the premises at present, habours miscreants including suspected rapists who carry out their nefarious activities in the place at night.
Although the gate of the abandoned textile mill is under lock and key, LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that miscreants and hoodlums have formed leeway including exit pathways in and out of the place.
The state commissioner for information, Barrister Chike Ogeah had, last year, told journalists that the process of reviving the mill had been concluded and added that money had been budgeted for it.
Police authorities in the state had in 2012 told newsmen that several persons were arrested at the premises on a tip off and added that upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime of waylaying unsuspecting passersby as well as dispossessing them of their belongings.
LEADERSHIP further checks revealed that unidentified corpses are allegedly dumped at the premises of the abandoned textile mill by unknown ritualists after removing vital parts from their body.
Meanwhile police detectives in Asaba have uncovered a maternity home allegedly used as baby factory around DLA road.
Sources close to the police authorities hinted that the maternity home operated by a laboratory scientist, accommodated several pregnant ladies who after delivery dump the babies in the home which would be allegedly sold under the guise of adoption.
