Provide Level Playing Ground, Cable TV Operators Appeal to NBC

By Ese Adagbra,Warri
Association of Cable Television Operators has appealed to National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and Federal Ministry of information to provide a level playing ground between local and foreign communication operators in order to encourage the growth of the local industry in Nigeria.
Making the demand as part of the Association’s resolutions after conclusion of its quarterly general meeting held recently at Effurun, Delta State, the Association in a press statement signed by Mr. Kalaka Wilson the secretary of the Association, the group called on the NBC to summon a stake holders forum, just as it lamented that it is unfortunate that Nigeria air wave has been progressively surrendered to foreign control for commercial reasons.
The release criticizes the undue preference given to DSTV/MULTCHOICE to roll out cable services as against the mobile services granted to them. The Association condemned the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) for allowing it’s poles to be used by pay television operators.
While commending the authorities of Nigeria Copy Rights Commission for raiding local pirate signals at Onitsha and other places, the association disclosed that it would soon commence legal action against those patronizing them.
No fewer than seven legally recognized television network operators, including World Link Communications Limited Warri attended the meeting.
