Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar

The House of Representatives has asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar to fish out the herdsmen who murdered the 10 Ogume youths last week in Delta state. The resolution was contained in a motion moved by Osai Osai (PDP/Delta state).
The lawmaker recalled that “the herdsmen were simply asked to re- locate their grazing so as not affect the indigenes farms,” adding that “what followed next was killing of my people rather than comply
with the directive.”
According to Ossai, “the clash led to the destruction of cash crops, the herdsmen also carted away their tubers and AK47 was freely used by the assailants.”

Ossai who stressed the need to prosecute the herdsmen, noted that “my people are known to be the most peaceful in the Niger Delta and even during the days of militancy we never participated. We love strangers; we even pray for strangers to come and be part of us, is this we get for being accommodating?
“These youths were cut short at their prime, I beg of you consider this motion it is not a crime to be peaceful and treat the motion with the speed of light.”
The house passed the motion to condemn the killing and also Mmandated the Committee on Agriculture to conduct a public hearing Mon ways to find a lasting solution to incessant clashes between farmers and herdsmen in the country.
