President Jonathan Applauds Edwin Clark Initiative of University of Technology

(L-R) Chief Edwin Clark and President Goodluck Jonathan

LAGOS OCTOBER 26TH (URHOBOTODAY)-President Goodluck Jonathan heaped praise on foremost educator and political icon, Edwin Clark, who has commenced plans to establish a university of technology in his home town in Kiagbodo.
Speaking at a fund-raising event, Jonathan said Clark’s passionate belief in the pre-eminence of education in the development of people had been a recurrent feature in his remarkable life.
“It is therefore not surprising that he has decided that the one physical legacy he would want to be remembered for is a model tertiary institution in his home town, Kiagbodo, hence his dream for the Edwin Clark University of Technology,” he said.

He added, “This worthy social cause deserves our encouragement and support. It especially resonates with me, not just because the event is about an iconic Nigerian statesman, but also because it concerns education and youth empowerment: two pivotal issues in our administration’s Transformation Agenda.”
He said his administration appreciated the value of education as the veritable platform to launch the rebirth of Nigeria.
“I commend Nigerians who are contributing to this sector through the setting up of private universities. We remain resolutely committed to improving both quality and access in all aspects of our education system. We therefore stand ready to support all meaningful efforts at affording our children the opportunity to thrive in today’s knowledge and technology-driven world.”
Jonathan added, “It is no accident that the proposed Edwin Clark University is primarily focused on technology. It typifies Chief Clark’s uncommon visionary leadership trait of sacrificially striving for the utmost for the people whom God has blessed him to serve and lead.”
He said apart from the contribution to the education sector, Clark had legitimate propriety to be remembered in many other areas in which he excelled.
“He has served Nigeria meritoriously at both the State and Federal levels as Commissioner and Minister of such diverse portfolios as Education, Finance and Establishment, and Information.”
