LAGOS SEPTEMBER 2ND (URHOBOTODAY)-Former Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship aspirant, Chief Sunny Onuesoke has reiterated that former President Goodluck Jonathan was President of the whole Nigeria and such would not have concentrated in the development of Niger Delta alone at the expense of other parts of the country.
The PDP Chieftain who made the Statement in Warri, Delta State, while reacting to Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari’s allegations on social media accusing former President Goodluck Jonathan of non-performance in Niger Delta region in his six years in office, observed that Jonathan as President of Nigeria concentrated more in the development of Northern Region than Niger Delta region where he hailed from because he was a not an ethnic or regional leader.
He argued that Masari would have directed such accusation to his Northern leaders who ruled Nigeria for a greater part of the fifty six years as a nation yet there was nothing to show for it nationally, while there was so much underdevelopment, poverty and illiteracy in the Northern part of Nigeria.
Reviewing the various achievements of Goodluck Jonathan during his six years reign, Onuesoke recalled that Jonathan’s administration diligently implemented its agenda for national transformation in priority areas which included power, rehabilitation and expansion of national infrastructure, agricultural development, education and employment generation among others.
He said despite coming from Niger Delta region, it was evident that Jonathan concentrated more in developing the Northern and other parts of the country at the expense of Niger Delta region because he believed his constituency is the whole Nigeria.
According to him, “The educational sector under his administration achieved a tremendous transformation as twelve federal universities out of which four were situated in the North-West cities of Dutsinma in Katsina, Dutse in Jigawa, Gusau in Zamfara and Birnin Kebbi in Kebbi State, while 125 Almajirai Schools were constructed and commissioned with adequate teaching facilities to provide basic qualitative education to the less privileged in the society.”
Beside the aforementioned, he pointed out that the developmental impact of Jonathan’s administration was equally felt in infrastructural development, agriculture, transport, employment equality, productivity, sports and electricity supply among others across the country
“Nigerians are difficult to satisfy. As a President, if Jonathan embarked on full development of Niger Delta at the expense of other parts of the country, people like Masari would have accused him of being biased and regionally minded. Now that he has decided to developed even Masari’s region than his own, they still find fault in him,” Onuesoke lamented
