Man Arrested for Murder of 11 Policemen, Says He was Forced to Join the Gang

Jackson Fabouwei suspected leader of the gang that killed 11 policemen in Bayelsa State

Lagos June 8th, (URHOBOTODAY) The JTF in Bayelsa has paraded a man, Jackson Fabouwei, who they claim was the mastermind of the alleged murder of 11 police officers in the state. Fabouwei, who is popularly known as Junior Boro, was arrested following what the military called “high intelligence work.”
He is however denying the allegation of being the mastermind. He claims that he was forced to accompany the gang against his wishes, and named the leader of the gang as General Virus, who he said was hiding in Port Harcourt.

The 11 policemen were killed while escorting a former militant, Kile Torugbedi also known as General Young Shall Grow, to the funeral of his mother at Azuzuama community. Torughedi is currently an adviser to the Bayelsa governor, Seriake Dickson on maritime security.
Fabouwei was paraded at the Sector 2 headquarters of JTF in handcuffs and shackles.
“My name is Jackson Fabouwei, but known as Junior Boro. I participated in the shooting of the policemen, but I’m not a member of the gang,” said Fabouwei to newsmen.
“I am a surveillance contractor in the creek. The leader of the gang is General Virus. He is hiding in Port Harcourt.
“I only participated by accident because I was with them, and there was nothing I could do to stop the boys.
“Virus said the policemen should be killed because he is angry with General Young Shall Grow”, Fabouwei said.
The anger of General Virus, who was one of Torughedi’s loyalists during the militancy era, was that the former militant turned special adviser had betrayed and abandoned them.
Col. Farouk Yahaya, who represented JTF Commander, said however that Fabouwei, the man they were parading was the mastermind of the murders.
“The suspect before you is Jackson Fabouwei, alias Jasper Junior,” he told newsmen.
“He is the mastermind of the dastardly act of April 5, 2013 when 11 policemen were killed in Azuzuama.
“He was arrested on June 6 around Ikibiri, near Azuzuama community in Southern Ijaw LGA through high intelligence gathering by the JTF and other security agencies.
“Our operation led to the arrest of some suspects, destruction of criminal hideouts and recovery of some arms and ammunition in the creeks.’’
The suspect would be handed over to the police for prosecution and investigation.
