June 12 Comes Alive as Buhari, Tinubu, Soyinka, Others Set to Honour MKO Abiola

LAGOS JUNE 2ND (URHOBOTODAY)-Nigeria new President, President Muhammadu Buhari, former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nobel Lauret Professor Wole Soyinka are among the dignitaries expected to honour Chief MKO Abiola on June 12 as a mark of respect for the soul of the departed martyr.
A press statement signed by Mr Abdulmumuni Abiola on behalf of the hosts and local Organising Committee of the event made available to URHOBOTODAY an online medium, disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osibanjo are the guests of honour, Tinubu is the Chief host and lead speaker, while Professor Wole Soyinka will deliver the keynote address at the event which will hold at the residence of late Bashorun M.K.O Abiola situated at MKO Abiola Crescent, Off Toyin Street, Ikeja, Lagos on Friday 12th June, 2015.
The statement further explained that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is expected to be the Chairman of the occasion with Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, Chief Rochas Okorocha, Mallam Nasir El Rufai, Alhaji Tanko AlMakura, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as guest of honours.
The statement said the event is to commemorate the 22nd Democracy Anniversary in Nigeria, adding that it will hold from 8am to 11am in remembrance of the struggles and sacrifices of the Nigerian people to actualize democratic governance in Nigeria via the June 12 1993 elections as against the annulment by Nigerian military under the command of General Ibrahim Babangida.
The statement further disclosed that this year’s ceremony will also witness the laying of a special wreath of honour at the graveside of MKO Abiola in memory of his unparallel sacrifices and martyrdom for the emergent democratic Change in Nigeria
“However, it is also expected by the June 12 Movement that the new progressive government in Nigeria under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari will proclaim a categorical official recognition of the democratic sacrifices of the late Chief MKO Abiola on the emergent progressive change in Nigeria on or before that date,” the statement added.
