LAGOS MARCH 2ND (URHOBOTODAY)-It was a nightmare for students of the Babington Macurley Junior Seminary (BMJS), Ikorodu, Lagos, early Tuesday as unknown gunmen allegedly broke into the school and kidnapped three students.
The gunmen, suspected to be displaced pipeline vandals, attacked the school premises at Agunfoye-Lugbusi village at about 8pm on Monday, February 29, and took the three girls captive as they got away The Nation reports.
How source revealed that the pupils are preparing for exams and went to the classroom to read and revise. It was in the process that the hoodlums came, armed with Ak47, and started shooting sporadically and took three of them,” he said.
Eye witnesses report that the armed vandals gained entry into the school by breaking the perimeter fence from the rear side which served as protection for the boarding students.
This was confirmed by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police Zone 2 command, Bala Hassan, and the Lagos State Commissioner of ?Police, Fatai Owoseni, who visited the school and assured the management that efforts were ongoing to rescue the pupils alive.
After a closed door meeting with the parents and the school management, the AIG revealed that the police had got useful information on the location of the abductors and were working with other security agencies to secure their release.
“The security forces jointly are doing everything possible to ensure that the three children abducted are rescued in good health. We have also given assurance of adequate security on the premises so that learning will continue.
“I have got some lead information from the commissioner of police and everything is on course. The deployment has not changed and Ogun State Command has been contacted to make sure that that place is fully secured.
“The important thing is to rescue them safely back to their parents. It may take a couple of day and it may even be today. We are still going to the offices to do one or two things that will facilitate the recovery of these children.
“For now, we want to keep the identities of the children to our chest and see what we can do today, ?tomorrow. I want to assure that the security forces are on top of the situation.”
The school, located at Agunfoye-Ilegbusi Village, off Itokin-Ijebu Ode road, Ikorodu, Lagos, was founded in October 1996, by Joseph Abiodun Adetiloye, former primate of the Church, and named after Late Reverend Thomas Babington Macaulay who was the founder of C.M.S. Grammar School, Bariga, Lagos in 1859.
