Dr Yakubu Gowon

Nigeria’s former head of state Yakubu Gowon has recounted how
he narrowly missed the crashed helicopter that killed governor of Kaduna state and ex-National Security Adviser (NSA).
Speaking at a public function in Kaduna state, the former head of state dispelled any rumour of sabotage in the crash saying “it was accident.”
His words: “As we were with the aide of the President to pay ourcondolence, they were arranging a Navy Helicopter to take us to
Yenagoa (with Yakowa). But, another Helicopter was arranged for
me and five others. And that was it.
“It was an accident. Don’t read any meaning to it. Don’t say that it is
planned to get rid of some people. These were nice innocent
people. Something, probably mechanical went wrong to have
caused the accident. So it was not a plan to get rid of the Governor
for whatever reason people want to guess.”
Gowon said late Yakowa was a nice man whose administration has
brought peace to his state.
Meanwhile, the Federal Executive council yesterday held a specialvaledictory session for late Gov. Yakowa and the ex-NSA Gen.Azazi who were killed in the Bayelsa military chopper crash.
The president will also later today (Thursday) lead members of thefederal executive council to Kaduna state to attend the burial of thelate Governor.
