Go Back for Further Treatment, PDP Senate Caucus Urges Suntai

Danbaba Suntai

LAGOS SEPTEMBER 3RD (URHOBOTODAY)-A Senate team sent to Taraba State to assess the health of the State Governor, Danbaba Suntai, arrived Jalingo, the state capital Tuesday, after which the team asked the ailing governor to proceed for further treatment.
The team sent by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, caucus in the Senate, was led by Senator Hope Uzodinma. It met behind closed doors with the governor
.
After the meeting which was held at the governor’s official residence and was attended by the governor’s loyalists, including Senator Emmanuel Bwacha representing Taraba South Senatorial District, Senator Uzodinma briefly told journalists that there was no crisis in the state.
He said the governor would proceed for further treatment while the Acting Governor, Garba Umar, who had held sway for the past ten months when Suntai was hospitalised in Germany and later in America, would continue in office.
Uzodinma, however, said Umar would consult Suntai on sensitive state issues.
The Senate team was set up when crisis erupted over whether Suntai was fit to rule or not, after he was brought back from the United States of America where he was receiving treatment for the near-death injuries he sustained from a plane crash last October.
Also today, the Taraba State House of Assembly met on the crisis over who should be in charge of the state, the ailing Suntai or the Acting Governor Garba Umar, who had held sway for the past ten months when Suntai was hospitalised in Germany and later in America.
Sixteen lawmakers, out of the 24 in the Assembly, attended today’s meeting presided over by the Speaker, Haruna Tsokwa.
Only eight other lawmakers who are on the side of Suntai did not take part in today’s meeting.
Sources told P.M.NEWS that the House of Assembly would adjourn indefinitely later in the week after the members had ratified the decisions they will take regarding the political logjam arising from Suntai’s attempt to return to power even when they perceive he is not yet fit to rule.
