DESOPADEC Commissioner, Ominimini Flags -off Computer Training with Assurance for Start-Up Packs

LAGOS OCTOBER 3RD (URHOBOTODAY)- Commissioner Representing Ethiope-East and Ughelli North Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Rt. Hon (Chief) Ominimini Obiuwebi has flag- off computer appreciation and adult education training for members of his constituency with assurance of the agency continuity in training and provision of starter pack for successful participants to start their own business.

The two-day training workshop on computer appreciation and adult education tagged, “Computer Appreciation/Adult Education for Oil and Gas Communities for Ughelli North and Ethiope-East” undertaking by consulting firm, De-Dafe Associates taking place at Alpha Resa Hotel, Ughelli, Delta State, is also to acquaint participants about the activities of DESOPADEC and its importance to oil producing communities in Delta State. After the course, participants were also expected to transfer what they have learnt about activities of DESOPADEC to their people in oil producing communities.
No fewer than thirty five participants are expected to benefit from the computer course which is expected to end on Wednesday..

Declaring the workshop opened, Ominimini Obiuwevbi told the participants to take the course serious hence the course is very vital to their day to day living in the society. He said the society has developed to an extent that no matter the qualification of a person he cannot fix into any organization for employment except he is computer literate.
“For you to be able to gain employment into any organization you must be computer literate. Be you an Engineer, Accountant, Historian or Ph.d holder, you must be computer literate to get employment in any organization either in banks, oil companies or civil service,” he said.
Speaking further about the importance of the workshop, Ominimini who recently donated buses to Executives of HOSTCOM in Ethiope-East and Ughelli North LGA advised the participants to open up their ears, brain and ask as many questions as they could so that they would achieve something very vital at the end of the training.
He assured participants that they are already making provision in the next budget to provide further training for those who performed well in the workshop and provision of start pack to start their own business on computer issues.

Hear him , “After this course, we will make provision for those we have trained by providing start- up pack in which they will use to start their own business centre. For instance it will not be out of place to make provision for laptops, desk computers, printers and small generators for those we have trained to start small scale business centre. I believed that after this training, they will not be the same hence they would have been exposed to activities of DESOPADEC and computer appreciation. “

Ominimini disclosed that beside the workshop, another human development training is expected at Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) where participants would be issued a certificate by the University.
“In fact, this is just the beginning. Another training is coming up in Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) for no fewer than 250 trainees. In that training, participants will be train on welding, fabrication, soap making and computer appreciations among others. The Delta State University is expected to issue the certificate so that it will be valuable at the labour market, Ominimini disclosed.
Ominimini who described the money spent on human development by DESOPADEC as well spent, assured that from time to time members of DESOPADEC would be interacting with members of host communities by educating , training and retraining them because the host communities and DESOPADEC are one.
“DESOPADEC is there to develop them and again we have taking a very vital step which is bottom top. We want to make sure that our decisions are driven by contributions of the communities before decision making of stakeholders at the board level,” he explained.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Managing Partner of De-Daf Associates Engr. S.D Esedafe thanked Ominimini for initiating the programme for the people of his constituency.
He disclosed that at the end of the training, participants would understand the value of education, appreciate the use of computers, have a better understanding of DESOPADEC and its benefits and have good relationship with officials of DESOPADEC with the end result leading to avoidance of breakdown of law and order and reduction of youth restiveness.
