Delta state wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has expressed concern over the increasing rate at which teachers in the state are being kidnapped. They also warned that if the trend continued, they might be forced to shut down the schools for their own safety.
Speaking yesterday, the State Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Adhe, noted that the attack and kidnap of teachers in the State had become a disturbing trend, and noted that something urgent needed to be done to save the innocent teachers from the hands of criminal elements.
The NUT boss spoke against the backdrop of the recent kidnap of two teachers at Okugbe Primary School, Adabrasa-Ugolo in Okpe Local Government Area of the State alongside their drivers while returning from school. He gave the names of the teachers as Mrs. Okuda Philo and Mrs. Nwachukwu Elizabeth. Both are still in their abductors’ dens who, according to him, are demanding N5million ransom to secure their release.
