Delta State Flood Victims get Relief Materials after Decamping

Several months after vacating Flood Victims Rehabilitation camps, Delta State flood victims were yesterday presented by relief materials worth thousands of Naira. The relief materials were part of relief materials donated to the state government by the Federal Government, Organizations, individuals and others.
Events watchers however wondered if the relief materials would get to the those the materials were meant for taking into consideration aaleged stories of diversion of relief materials even when the victims were present in camp.

The Committee on the Management of Federal Government Fund and Post Flooding Rehabilitation of Victims, reached out to the flood victims affected in Warri South-West, Patani, Udu, Bomadi, Burutu, Ughelli South and Ughelli North in their fair share of relief materials to cushion the effect in the oil rich city of Warri.
Chairman of the Committee, Justice Francis Tabai (Rtd), said in Warri during the distribution of the relief materials to the affected councils that the materials were meant to flood devastated communities in the state.
He told the Transition Committee Chairmen of the seven (7) councils to allow the relief materials go down to the affected flood victims.
According to him, “These relief materials we are giving out today are not enough for one village, not to talk of the entire local government area, but by guided by justice and fairness in giving it out to the affected people.”
“I want to stress that the weak people in the local government areas should be given priority, also give out to nursing mothers and pregnant women because they need food and also give out to the oldest people in the communities,” Chairman of the Committee stated.
In his words; “More relief materials are coming and as they come, we will continue to give out to others. The quantity may not be enough to go round but the spirit behind it matters a lot, this is to serve humanity. I want to implore all of you to plant the yam seedlings, do not cook them, plant them for it to multiply in the nearest future.”
The recipients, who received the gift items commended the State and Federal Governments for coming to their rescue in their time of need.
Meanwhile, the relief materials that was doled out to flood victims include mattresses, bags of rice and beans, vegetable oil, palm oil, cartoon off macaroni, sugar, blankets, treated mosquito nets, wrappers, yam seedlings, garri, salt, toiletries, among others.
