DELTA CP WALE ABASS 2

LAGOS OCTOBER 20TH (URHOBOTODAY)-The Ika South chapter of Nigeria Union of Teachers, Delta State, on Thursday protested the alleged killing of a teacher, Sunday Ufah, in the school compound.

Ufah was allegedly attacked by a pupil’s father simply identified as Uweke at Alihame Mixed Secondary School, Agbor on Wednesday, leading to his death.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the pupil and others drank someone’s palm wine on a farm, hence the school authority disciplined them.

A source in the community said, “A man complained to the school authority that some students entered his farm and drank his palm wine, so the teacher disciplined them but one of the students reported the matter to his father.

“The father went to the school and used a cane to hit the teacher. Immediately, the teacher fell and started battling for life. Nobody touched the man because of fear.

“As the man left, they rushed the teacher to a hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival.”

Meanwhile, NUT on Thursday took to the streets over the teacher’s death.

Speaking at the peaceful protest, the branch Chairman, NUT Ika South, Isaac Arimokwu, said, “We are embarking on a peaceful protest over the sudden death of one of us, late Sunday Ufah, after a sudden attack on the members of staff of Alihame Mixed Secondary School, Agbor yesterday (Wednesday).

“We are calling on the Delta State Government and the police to bring the perpetrator to book.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the killing, adding that the suspect has been arrested.

“The man is a father of one of the students who claimed that his son was flogged and as a result, he attacked the teacher,” Edafe said.
