Delta: 500 Sapele Youths on Rampage over Alleged Soldier’s Killing of Boatman

LAGOS AUGUST 30TH (URHOBOTODAY) — It was pandemonium in Sapele, Delta State, as over 500 youths, yesterday, went on rampage around Decima Road water side, setting bonfire on major roads, following the alleged killing by soldiers of one of the youths in the area.
The incident led to traders deserting the Sapele Market Square, particularly the saw mill and water side axis, even as residents fled for safety.

The protest by the youths started when the body of the boat transporter, called Babatie Gbamini-dop, aged 32, was seen floating in the popular River Ethiope, Sapele, three days after soldiers were alleged to have embarked on a raid at Obotie water front in a bid to scare away illegal diesel dealers on the River Ethiope.
Family of the deceased, which had earlier declared him missing after the raid, is alleging that he must have been hit by bullets from the soldiers during the raid.
The deceased was declared missing last Saturday and every effort by his family to locate his whereabouts proved abortive, until his body was found afloat the river three days later.
