DELSU Lecturers Beg Police to Secure Release of their Colleague Abducted 4 Months Ago


The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka chapter, has asked the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba, to secure the release of Dr (Mrs) Mercy Mokobia, who was abducted about four months ago and has since been in the abductors’ custody.
The union is requesting the recovery of the abducted woman dead or alive or face an industrial showdown after the end of the ongoing national strike embarked upon by the national body.

Dr Mokobia was kidnapped at the wee hours of April 9, 2013 in her bedroom at Abraka, Delta State, with her whereabouts still unknown four months after despite arrest of alleged suspects.
In a chat with journalists on Tuesday, in Warri, chairman of ASUU, DELSU chapter, Dr Emmanuel Mordi, warned that his men would begin the chapter’s strike afresh even after the end of the national strike if the mystery surrounding the kidnap of Dr Mokobia, was not unraveled by the Delta State Police Command.
Dr Mokobia was kidnapped in her bedroom at the wee hours of April 9 and despite avanlanche of efforts and promises made by the police to rescue the female lecturer from the kidnappers’ den, her whereabouts remains unknown.
The ASUU boss threatened to mobilise his colleagues to embark on an indefinite strike until Dr Mokobia was found dead or alive.
