LAGOS APRIL 4TH (URHOBOTODAY)-A monumental financial scandal is currently rocking the social media department of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation as the Head of the Department, Akinola Oyegoke, is being accused of diverting a huge sum of money meant to pay the staff working in the department.
The staff, about 15 of them, who run a 24-hour shift are meant to be paid N100,000 every week, but in the last two months Oyegoke only paid each of them just N75,000 for the entire duration, instead of N800,000, thus short-changing each staff to the tune of N725,000.
It is not only on monthly pay that Oyegoke perpetuates the fraud. He also cheats them on daily feeding allowance. While each of the staff is supposed to get N10,000 per day, he gives them only N500.
According to sources in the PDPCO, The Social Media department received an approval of N230million to upgrade the social media room to situation room in order to monitor the election, but as at today, no situation room was set up.
A week to the election, Oyegoke was said to have bought a Toyota Camry 2011 for his girl friend, Chioma, whom he also brought to work in the department. Without doubt, said a source, the purchase is from the money he creamed off from the remuneration of staff of the department.
“We came to the office on Monday to collect our salary only to be told that we should go to the account department. On getting to the account department, we found out that our salary has been paid to Oyegoke; who has travelled back to London after the PDP lost the election. What the account department want to pay us is just the “pay off” which we have been going to the office everyday, up till now we are get to get paid” said one of the staff in the social media room.
Oyegoke’s is one of the many embarrassing cash-related scandals assailing the entire spectrum of Jonathan’s campaign. They all lend credence to the general belief that those who run the campaign are more interested in feathering their own nests than working conscientiously for Jonathan’s victory at the polls.
Each of the security guarding the Legacy House are entitled to N80, 000 but they were being paid N20, 000. Infact, when some of the security men accosted the Director of Finance, she asked them if fighting Boko Haram to be entitled to N80,000 monthly? The security personnel are set for show down on Tuesday after the Easter break.
All the Directors that worked in the campaign office of the PDP never worked for the success of the party. They were just out to loot the campaign funds and tell the President that all is well. This is one of the reasons the President accepted defeat even before INEC announced the final results of the March 28, 2015 election.
None of the Directors comes to the office after the March 28 election; some of them are even out of the country after looting the campaign fund.
In fact Nenadi Esther Usman, the Director in charge of Finance has been accused of embezzlement of N4billion through various fictitious campaign projects
“We are set for show down on Tuesday if they don’t pay us our money, we will ensure that no director goes out of this building without our full salary and pay off” said an aggrieved staff of the social media room…..
