Super Four: Warri Wolves Thrash Kano Pillars 2-0

LAGOS JANUARY 24TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Warri Wolves Football Club on Friday in Abuja beat reigning Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Kano Pillars, 2-0 in a Matchday One fixture at the Super Four competition.
In the match played at the Abuja National Stadium before a scanty crowd, Kola Anubi opened scores for Warri Wolves in the 42nd minute of the first half.

Kano Pillars took possession of the game in the second half, but they could not convert their scoring chances as Warri Wolves held on tight.
Kingsley Ikpotor took the match beyond the Kano side when he made it 2-0 barely three minutes into the added time.
After the game, Coach Abdu Maikaba of Kano Pillars said his players had a very good game in spite of the loss.
Maikaba said they played to his instructions.
He, however, said they would use the Super Four competition to assess the new players in the team and make corrections on areas of weaknesses.
He said: “In spite of the loss, I will say my players had a very good game.
“If we look at the way and manner we came for the tournament, without any test game before the competition, I will say they did their best.
“This is an avenue for us to see our team and see our weaknesses, so that we can effect the corrections in the future.
“I believe my boys, in spite of what happened, played to instructions.”
Warri Wolves Head Coach, Paul Aigbogun, on his part, said he was happy with the performance of his boys, adding that they played according to instructions.
Aigbogun said his players knew Kano Pillars were good and therefore did not give them the space to play their game.
Earlier in the day at the same venue, Enyimba International FC of Aba had beaten Bayelsa United FC of Yenagoa 3-0.
On Sunday, the Yenagoa-based side will take on Kano Pillars, while Enyimba International will face Warri Wolves FC.
The competition will end on Tuesday.
