LAGOS OCTOBER 20TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in 2015 general election, Obaisi (Barr) Ovie Omo-Agege has purchased the party’s expression of interest and nomination in readiness to participate in the primaries saying he is the best equipped candidate to defeat any candidate of the opposition parties in the governorship election with huge margin and help President Goodluck Jonathan achieve a landslide victory with higher voter turnout in 2015 than in 2011.

According to him, “After several months of consulting with local and national leaders in our party and state and the tremendous support and encouragement I received, I am confident that we can utilise this opportunity for the good of our people. So today, I took another practical step forward by purchasing the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in my quest to succeed Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan who must leave office on May 29, 2015 due to constitutional term limits.

“I took this step because I see a clear path to winning the nomination of the PDP and the general election so we can continue with the task of building the Delta of our dream. Despite Governor Uduaghan’s remarkable achievement in the past seven years, Delta state still faces challenges of unemployment, insecurity and declining revenue which could worsen in no distant future due to our country’s over dependence on oil as the main source of revenue.
“Delta state needs a governor with pan Delta agenda, not sectional or ethnic agenda, a governor who sees Delta state as a whole as his constituency, one who is committed to carrying everyone along irrespective of tribe or language. Delta does not need a governor who is afraid to compete or one who advocates for exclusion of others in this race to gain advantage.

“My ambition is not borne out of any sense of entitlement that I am an Urhobo man and we must rule. I advocate that in this race, no one should be excluded on the basis of a non existing zoning arrangement so that the best candidate can emerge and lead our party to victory against an opposition that is praying that in our party, we make the mistake of shooting ourselves on both feet by excluding a section of our state from the primaries.
“I offer myself as a Deltan who is concerned about widespread unemployment that is destroying the very fabric of our society. My candidacy offers the electorate the only clear route to making Delta state the best place to live and make a living with equal opportunity for all and guarantees the PDP victory with a clear mandate.
“I believe that I, more than anyone else, in this race or may join, best understand the urgent need to create more jobs for the people of Delta state so that we all can have a chance of a better future. I am the best equipped candidate to defeat any candidate of the opposition parties in the governorship election with huge margin and help President Goodluck Jonathan achieve a landslide victory with higher voter turnout in 2015 than in 2011 and deny the opposition any foothold.
“I am committed to transforming Delta state by building a strong and stable economy, a strong and secured society with cleaner environment and changing our politics so that we all can live a happier life. We will diversify our economy in line with Governor Uduaghan’s Delta Beyond Oil Vision by giving top priority to agriculture, agro-allied industries, manufacturing, tourism, entertainment industry and sports. We will be tough on crime by setting up Community Security Marshals in every community to combat crime. We will complete the Independent Power Plant and continue to provide better schools, better hospitals, better roads, better bridges, affordable housing, portable water and other infrastructures as well as a cleaner environment.
“These are the issues I will be discussing with our people during the course of the campaign. I look forward to a robust conversation with the people on these issues and the future direction of Delta state. I will run a smear-free campaign that engages the people on my plans to create jobs and opportunity for everyone in our state. I am grateful for the overwhelming support and encouragement I have received so far from people across the state and the political spectrum. I count on your continuing support until victory is achieved and thereafter work together to develop our state to the level thought impossible.”
