LAGOS MAY 23RD (URHOBOTODAY)-The government of the United Kingdom has pledged to assist Nigeria’s incoming President, Muhammadu Buhari, combat terrorism and corruption.
The Prime Minister, David Cameron, gave the assurances on Saturday morning while welcoming the President-elect at 10 Downing Street, London, the country’s seat of power.
In a statement, the UK government spokesperson said after both leaders met Mr. Cameron stressed the readiness of his government “to work for a stable, prosperous and secure Nigeria.”

According to the statement, both men discussed how to improve security in the West African region in the face of a brutal Boko Haram insurgency that has killed thousands of people.
They discussed how to strengthen the ongoing regional military cooperation that has pushed rampaging terrorists back and helped to reclaim most the communities occupied by the extremist group.
Mr. Cameron promised that the U.K. military will continue to provide training and share intelligence with Nigeria in order to defeat the insurgents.
The two leaders agreed that corruption needs to be tackled to ensure Nigeria’s prosperity and success.
Mr. Cameron promised to provide technical assistance to the Nigerian government to aid its anti – corruption reforms.
This no doubt will be of strong interest to Mr. Buhari who defeated incumbent Goodluck Jonathan in Presidential election last March by endearing himself to voters with anti-corruption pledges.
Both men also pledged to strengthen the cooperation between both countries in fighting organized crimes.
On the challenges posed by migration from Africa to Europe, Mr. Buhari promised to do everything in his power to help secure Nigeria’s borders.
