Ibori’s Loot is Still with United Kingdom — UK Envoy
LAGOS JANUARY 4TH (URHOBOTODAY)-British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Paul Arkwright has affirmed that loot confiscated or forfeited by former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori is still in the custody of the United Kingdom government.
Speaking in an interview monitored in Punch Newspaper on the case of Ibori who is presenting serving imprisonment in the UK over money laundering offence, Arkwright said United Kingdom ensured that assets seized, confiscated or forfeited that fall within Article 57 United Nations Convention Against Corruption 2005 are returned to the country from which they were stolen.
As for the case of Ibori, he affirmed that none of the money confiscated from Ibori has yet been returned, adding that his confiscation hearing is scheduled to take place later in 2016.
“Assets have been forfeited and confiscated from linked trials and we are, through the Home Office, working on the modality of their return,” The envoy clarified.
He said they are working with Nigerian authorities to deliver an effective mechanism for the return of stolen funds and assets from Nigeria.
