Pirates Kill Headmaster, Cart away Teachers’ Salaries in Bayelsa

LAGOS NOVEMBER 15TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Unknown gunmen suspected to be sea pirates have attacked a passenger boat along the waters of Tuomo and Aleibiri communities in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, killing Mr. Weky Akparakazi, the headmaster of Foutorugbene Primary School.
The armed pirates also carted away undisclosed amount of money said to be meant for the payment of salaries of teachers of the school, a security source said.

It was learnt that the incident, which occurred on November 9, had thrown affected teachers and Akparakazi’s family into tears and sadness.
A top management staff of the Bayelsa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), who pleaded for anonymity, confirmed the attack on Thursday.
Primary school teachers in the local government areas of the state receive salaries by hand rather than through the bank, it was learnt.
The pirates were said to have shot the headmaster because he allegedly refused to admit that he was in possession of the money.
The hoodlums also disposed other passengers of their valuables and belongings including money and mobile phones, among others.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa Police Command, Alex Akhigbe, stated that although the command was yet to be briefed on the incident, the marine component of the police had been placed on the alert.
