Delta GSM Subscribers Groan under Poor Communication Service

By Kessi Asiuhwu, Warri
This is not a good time for subscribers of Global Communication Service (GSM) in Delta state as communication service supplied by the different network providers is nothing to write home about.
Subscribers are finding it very difficult to make or receive calls from their business associates or love ones in the Delta.

Mostly affected are MTN subscribers. Urhobotoday investigation revealed that for the past two weeks, MTN subscribers in the state hardly make or receive calls. In a position where the calls mistakenly go through, the sound is either distorted with scratchy noise or the call is misdirected to another person.
Akpofure, a security expert based in Warri who spoke to our correspondent lamented the poor communication service in his area, adding that it had affected his business seriously.
“There are times my telephone calls will not go through or I cannot receive calls. If by mistake the call go through, I will not be able hear what my caller is saying from the other side hence there is distortive noise on the line. This is terrible, Akpofure who is MTN subscribe lamented.
For Eguolor who resides in Ughelli, his case is pathetic. He complained that when he makes calls, it is directed to another telephone number, adding he would make no fewer than five calls before getting his target.
“The calls hardly go through. But when it did, it will go to wrong telephone number. I have to continue trying before getting. But in course of trying, I will be wasting my credit as it is the wrong persons I am communicating with. This communication companies are wasting our resources. I wish there is anything Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) will do to make them rectify these anomalies and also compensate us for the waste we incurred in diverting our calls to wrong perons,” Akpofure who uses Airtel line appealed.
Some of the subscribers who bare their frustrations to Urhobotoday said poor network from the communication companies have been so terrible that they are not able to check their account balance to ascertain the airtime on their mobile phones or load their mobile phones with recharge cards.
According to the subscribers, they can only send and receive text messages with ease, stressing that the few calls that manage to go through particularly during the day are fraught with scratchy sounds thus distorting effective communication.
Meanwhile, the telecommunication companies are yet to issue a statement on the development as well as address the nagging problem.
