Kidnap Saga: Security Consultant, Ekhomu Escapes Abduction, Wife Rescued at Sapele, Obiyan Killed

Former President of the America Society for Industrial Security, Mr. Ona Ekhomu

LAGOS OCTOBER 20TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Emmanuel Obiyan, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Thomas White Plc and husband to Business Day Media Limited Chief Finance Officer, Adesua Obiyan was on Friday killed by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.
This was just as the Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole gave his assent to the amended 2009 anti-kidnapping bill which prescribed death penalty on kidnap offence and other related offences.
It was also gathered that the suspects shot, Onah Ekhomu, a private security expert while his wife was abducted.
The incident was said to have occurred at Ehor in Uhunmwode Local Government Area when they were travelling to attend this year’s annual Esan Professionals Conference.
It was learnt that they were accosted by the gunmen between Ehor and Iruekpen along Benin- Auchi road.
FrontiersNews gathered that the gunmen who reportedly wore police bullet proof vests and Jeans trousers were said to have told the victims that they were from headquarters and that they were under arrest.
When contacted Edo State Police Command image maker, Moses Eguavoen said he was yet to be briefed and that at the time he left the office on Friday no such report has been communicated to the command.
He however said he cannot confirm the report not until he was brief.
It was further gathered that Ekhomu on realizing that they had been abducted, quickly engaged the gunmen who shot him in the hand before he escaped into the bush.
Obiyan was said to have been shot severally by the gunmen who abandoned his body which has since been deposited at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital where Ekhomu was also rushed to for treatment.
Ekhomu’s wife was however reported to have been rescued near Sapele by the Delta State security outfit, JTF.
Reacting to the incident, several concerned Edo citizens who spoke on condition of anonymity have called for total war to be declared on kidnappers in Edo State with military personnel deployed to provide security on the Benin-Auchi Road.
It could be recalled that Mike Ozekhome and an aide to Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole were last month abducted at the same area where four policemen were also killed.
