Delta: Warri Journalists Elect New EXCO, Cautioned on Good Conduct

LAGOS OCTOBER 19TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Chairman of Delta State Council of National Union of Journalist (NUJ), Comrade Nobert Chiazor has advised members of NUJ Warri Chapel to conduct themselves in a manner befitting of the union.
Chiazor who gave the advise during the just concluded election of members of executive of NUJ Warri Chapel, maintained that as watch dogs of the society much is expected of the NUJ in the conduct of its elections particularly when practitioners were always at the forefront of judging electoral processes.
In the election which was conducted on Tuesday at the Press Centre of the NUJ Warri correspondent chapel, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu of The Pointer Newspaper was re-elected as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Warri Correspondents Chapel.

The election, conducted by the Chapel Three- man Electoral Committee headed by Voke Uvwie and supervised by officials of the NUJ Delta State Council led by Vice Chairman, Comrade Felix Igbekoyi and supported by the Financial Secretary, Comrade Celestine Afokoba saw Comrade Ikeogwu scored a total of Nineteen (19) votes from thirty one ( 31 ) votes casts to emerge as the chairman of the chapel for the second time running. He defeated his opponent, Julius-Omon Onabu of This Day Newspapers who scored twelve (12) votes.
Others elected members of the union into various offices unopposed includes Joe Ogbodu of the Compass Newspaper as Vice Chairman, Comrade Akpokona Omafuaire of the Vanguard Newspaper as Secretary and Odeya Ogbetuo of the Delta Voice as Auditor.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Ikeogwu dedicated his victory to God Almighty who made it possible for him to successfully complete his first tenure and again bringing him back for the second time.
He expressed gratitude to members of the chapel for their support, adding that the victory was for those that voted for him as well as those that voted for his opponent. He said time for winner takes it all was over and called on his opponent at the polls, Julius-Omon Onabu to join him in leading the union forward.
