Independence: Beware of Shopping Malls, Beaches, Parks, Police IG Warns

Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has warned that Nigerians should avoid public places during this period as there are suspicions that there might be terror attack.
While calling on his men to ensure adequate security to Nigerians during the period of the independent celebration, Abubakar called on the various Commandants of formations “to pay special attention to Shopping Malls, Public Parks and Beaches, Highways and other critical infrastructures and sensitive areas in order to guarantee the safety and well-being of the citizenry.”

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has said the celebration of the country’ 53rd independence will be low keyed.
The Special Assistant to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sam Nwaobasi, said yesterday in Abuja that “because of many issues, including insecurity, the celebration this year like in the last two years would be low keyed.”
He acknowledged that attaining 53 years as an independent country is not child’s play but a lot of issues are put under consideration in celebrating ‘a birthday, including the socio-economic and political realities in the country as it stands.”
