LAGOS SEPTEMBER 25TH (URHOBOTODAY)- Olorogun O’tega Omerhor has emerged victorious as the candidate to represent APC in Delta Central Senatorial election after pulling a total of 1,674 in the party’s primaries election conducted on Wednesday. He defeated his arch rival, Olorogun Festus Keyamo who pulled 36 votes to emerge as the party flag bearer.
Before the election, Keyamo who arrived at the venue of the election in Ughelli Town Hall, Ughelli, Delta State before the conduct of the election walked out of the venue in protest based on what he described as irregularities in the process of registration of delegates.
Declaring the result of the primaries, Chairman of APC Delta Central Senatorial Election, Senator Osita Izunusa who declared the result, pronounced Omerhor as the winner of the primaries and the candidate to fly the flag of APC in the coming Delta Central Senatorial election.
He said two candidates, Olorogun Festus Keyamo and Olorogun Omerhor O’tega were admitted by the party to contest the election in the party’s primaries, but Keyamo decided to withdraw from the contest in the last minutes on reasons best known to him.
He, however, explained that according to APC constitution and for the fact that Keyamo has been listed among the candidates to contest the election, the election has to hold as planned, adding that, that was why Keyamo’s name was among those voted for in the election.
Elated Omerhor thanked members of the party for electing him as the candidate to represent them in the senatorial election. He called on all the members of the party to put their differences aside and work in unity so that the party can clinch the Delta Central Senatorial seat made vacant by the demise of Late Senator Pius Ewherido.
Thus, with the election of Omerhor as APC candidate, it means the coast is clear as he is expected to lock horns with Chief Emmanuel Aguariavbodo of PDP and Chief Ede Dafinone of DPP in the oncoming Delta Central Senatorial election on October 5th, 2013.
