The attention of the Coalition of Urhobo Progressives, has some disparaging remarks in a press statement by one Hon. Martin Ovweghre on behalf of a ghost group with the nomenclature of “Urhobo Youths For Change, purportedly disparaging and trivializing the recent endorsement and consequent adoption of Olorogun Festus Keyamo as the APC concensus candidate for the delta Central bye-election by the legacy parties in the district.
While we will not want to exchange banters with faceless people, we humbly wish to put on record that the huge celebration that greeted the adoption of Keyamo by the legacy parties is a confirmation that the parties did not only speak the minds of the followers but that of the entire Urhobo Nation.
Besides, the attempt to drag the name of Olorogun Festus Keyamo into a matter that was discussed and agreed on by the executives of the parties, independent of his influence, shows that the faceless group is not just sponsored but totally out of touch with the processes leading to the adoption.
To show how uninformed and bereft of the fundamental depth of politics these groups are, they went ahead to buttress that the practice of ‘consensus candidature’ was at variance with the practice of democracy.
Consensus candidature is practiced all over the world. Its aim is simply to throw-up credible individuals who will enhance the fortunes of the party without recourse to the rigours of party primaries. In that case, the primaries will be organized for a mere affirmation of the consensus candidate.
It is apparent that Martin Ovweghre is dabbling into areas where he is totally ignorant about. The uncouth manner in which he replied elected representatives of the legacy parties showed his apparent lack of respect for the established institutions.
While we call on the general Urhobo populace and APC members particularly to ignore these confused people, who are not more than five in number and who are known PDP sympathisers, we submit that the APC is the Party that will always endeavour to help Nigeria’s best and most meritoriously-endowe¬d hands gain power instead of frustrating them openly as others do without shame. .
The acceptance of Keyamo indicates what is at the core of the change Nigeria needs i.e replacing garbage with the best Nigeria has to offer unlike other Parties that openly shuns, undermines and disgraces performers to give Nigeria individuals who are indolent, corrupt and incompetent. Congratulations to Festus Keyamo. Another ‘good guy’ enters the arena courtesy of the APC the natural destination of the best in Nigeria
