Delta: Urhobo Rainmaker Disgraced in Ceremony as Rain Poured Heavily Despite Incantations

Rain-Maker Ejaeta in a futile attempt

LAGOS SEPTEMBER 3RD (URHOBOTODAY)-An Otu-Jeremi, Ughelli South local government area based tiraditional rain-maker simply identified as Ejaeta was disgraced at Ekakpamre Community as rain poured heavily after he performed incantations in a bid to prevent the rain from falling on Friday August 30 at a service of songs organized in honour of one late Mama Mare Umukorodidi.
As at 1:55pm when Fresh Angle visited the venue where the service of songs was to hold, the DJ on ground was already thrilling guests and some children of the deceased with local Christian music, while they sang along watching the activities of the rain- maker as the rain poured and stopped at 1:17pm.
The rain started at about 1:38pm as the Christian music was on and stopped at 2:00pm. Just when the rain- maker was expressing happiness that he had succeeded in stopping the rain, the rain resumed heavily at 2:40pm before the commencement of the service of songs and left the environment heavily flooded, thus frustrating the effort of the rain-maker leaving him disappointed following the failure of his incantations.
The rain-maker almost exhausted the fire woods meant for cooking at the traditional burial the following day and even went ahead to collect more local gin (ogogoro) intended to be used for the traditional burial rite for his incantations yet his efforts were futile.
Our Senior Correspondent reports that it got to a point where the rain-maker increased the heat of his fire as the rain continued pouring down. But for the decision of one of the late Mama Mare Umukorodidi’s children to fill the venue with sand, guests who travelled from far and wide won’t have been able to seat.
Some indigenes of Ekakpamre Community who reacted to the development in an exclusive chat with Fresh Angle attributed the heavy rain which lasted for about an hour to their forthcoming feast, expressing optimism that the incantations would have worked if not for the feast, while others who also bare their minds said there is “nothing like God”.
Our Senior Correspondent reports that the rainmaker was so disappointed that he left the venue shamefully before the service of songs.
