Edwin Clark Backs Splitting of Urhobo Kingdom

LAGOS AUGUST 13TH (URHOBOTODAY)-IT WAS a gathering of prominent chiefs of the recently split Ughievwen Kingdom at the residence of leader of the South South geopolitical zone, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark when HRM Dafe Bukeroro Kogbodi, Ide I, Ovie of Owahwa kingdom paid him (Clark) homage.
The visit occured at Swamp Road, GRA Warri residence of Chief E. K Clark.

Chief Clark in his speech during the visit stated that splitting of kingdoms was not new to the Urhobo and others in Delta state, saying that the recent split-up of Ugievwen Kingdom was not new and wrong since change is the only thing that is constant in life.
He affirmed that the splitting of Ughievwen kingdom was not political but due to the yearnings and aspiration of the people. He noted, “The turnout I witnessed here today shows that the yearnings and agitation for Ughievwen clan to be split into four has persisted for long. Splitting of kingdoms is not new in Urhobo and other tribes in Delta State because change is the only thing permanent in life.”
He maintained that splitting of Ughievwen clan does not mean that the four kingdoms are no longer brothers. He advised those present to always work together as one whenever they are outside the Ughiewven clan, in order to achieve a common goal.
Chief Clark advised the new king, HRM Dafe Bukeroro, to always respect himself and others. “A king does not eat in public in places, dance in the open or hustle for contracts in NDDC, DESOPADEC and others because that will molest him. From the speech of HRM Ide I, Ovie of Owahwa kingdom, I know he will be a good king. I pray for God to give him long life,” he added.
Earlier, the monarch stated that the visit was to familiarize himself with Chief Clark after his coronation several weeks ago, adding that Chief Clark as a worthy son of the Ughiewven clan deserved to be honoured and informed about new development in the kingdom. Highlight of the courtesy visit was the conferring of chieftaincy title on Chief Clark as the Obotemu-oyovwin of Owahwa Kingdom by HRM Dafe Bukeroro Kogbodi, the Ovie of Owahwa Kingdom.
