Chief Great Ogboru

LAGOS AUGUST 6TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Notable politicians in Delta State, including former governorship aspirant on the platform of Democratic Peoples Party, DPP, Chief Great Ogboru, yesterday, denied claims in some quarters that the party was dead in the state.
He said that the party was waxing stronger in the politics of the country and the state in particular. He spoke in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.

Meanwhile, Urhukpe r’ Urhobo Forum, URH, an Urhobo ethnic nationality group in the state, has urged Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure that the forthcoming by-election in Delta Central Senatorial district that became vacant seat following the death of Senator Pius Ewherido, was devoid of violence and fraud.
The group in a statement by the facilitators, Chief Abel Idigun and Mr. Tony Ejoh, yesterday, in Warri, Delta State, urged DPP members in the senatorial district to close ranks and work assiduously for the success of the party in the by-election.
The statement said: “At this point, our party cannot afford to lose the by-election and must bring out its best cerebral materials as our representative to avoid a ‘seat warmer’ in the Senate.”
However, other speakers who took turn to address a large turn out of DPP faithful in Abraka, who thronged the Abraka River Resort and Motel, venue of a rally staged by Chief Ogboru, spoke in one accord that DPP was thriving better than ever in the state.
It was Ogboru’s first political event after the Supreme Court judgment, which ended his gubernatorial legal tussle over his attempt to unseat Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
We’re still in court — Ogboru
Ogboru, who confirmed that the party was still in court to invalidate parts of the Electoral Act, which runs contrary to Section 285 of 1999 Constitution, as amended, said that his battle over the 2011 election with Uduaghan was not yet over.
He said he hopes that “in a short time, justice would be done, because if the aspects of the electoral law which runs contrary to Section 285 of the constitution are repealed by the court, then the merit of my case will surface.”
State Chairman of DPP, Chief Tony Ezeagwu also confirmed that the party was not in merger with All Progressive Congress, APC, though he did not foreclose the possibility of a merger, which he said can take place if ongoing negotiations favour the tenets and aspirations of the party.
DPP only Delta party— Dafinone
Ace chartered Accountant, Chief Ede Dafinone, who was at the rally with supporters to showcase his readiness to contest the senatorial by-election to fill Delta Central Senatorial District vacuum, advised DPP faithful to disregard rumours that the party was dead and urged them to be steadfast, adding that DPP was the only party of the state.
Other DPP senatorial aspirations at the event, include Sir Richard Odibo, Chief Napoleon Gbenije and Chief Abel Adijala, all of who confirmed the vibrancy of DPP in the state.
They urged members to disregard any contrary rumour. An APC senatorial aspirant, Chief Otega Emerhon, was also in attendance.
