Ewherido’s ‘Family’ Endorses Emerhor for Senate

Olorogun O'tega Omerho

LAGOS JULY 29TH (URHOBOTODAY)—The political family of the late Senator Pius Ewherido has endorsed the candidature of Olorogun O’tega Emerhor for the upcoming bye-election to fill the vacant seat of Delta Central Senatorial District.
This followed the sudden death of Senator Ewherido on June 30, 2013.
The decision to endorse Emerhor was reached at a meeting of the group at the Senatorial office of the late senator in Effurun, Delta State.
Declaring the meeting open, Dr. Otegheri, who is the Director General of the group, said: “There is need for Senator Ewherido’s followers, friends and well wishers to team up with other progressives in the area to ensure that another senator, who will carry the dreams, visions and programmes of actions of the late senator to higher realm of implementation and actualisation is elected.”
The group took the decision after examining the political pedigree, integrity and patriotic commitments of all those who indicated interest in running for the vacant position. This they said was against the backdrop of an earlier charge to the political class by the Urhobo Progressive Union, UPU, during the burial of the senator, that his dreams must not be allowed to die with him.
Other concerns earlier raised by UPU and considered by the group were in relation to the senator’s Urhobo Language Prgramme, scholarship scheme, empowerment scheme and other auspicious programmes designed by the senator for the progress of Urhobo nation.
