Uduaghan Tasks DESIEC on Conduct of Credible LG Poll

Delta State Governor Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan

LAGOS JULY 25TH (URHOBOTODAY)-Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has tasked Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DESIEC) on the conduct of the local government election, stating government is prepared to dprovide logistics support to the agency as soon as it is ready.
The governor stated this while swearing in a member of the commission, Emibra Agbeotu, at Government House, Annexe, Warri.
He said his administration would leave no stone unturned to ensure that credible elections were conducted at the local government level in no distant time.

Uduaghan reasoned that positive results and credible governance can only occur if people with proven integrity who also enjoy the support of the people at the grassroots were elected into office.
According to him, since local government is closer to the people, their confidence and trust should be earned through a transparent and credible election that will stand the test of time.
”Strengthening of democracy will occur at the third tier of government if credible and trustworthy people are appointed as umpires.”
“Let me also note that credible elections are critical to good governance, especially at the local government level where it could impact positively on the people and sustain confidence in democratic governance, hence this administration is working out modalities that would make local government administration more result oriented’’, he said.
He added: “We are developing strategies for greater synergy with local government to ensure that socio-economic projects are implemented at the grassroots level on an efficient and effective basis.
“As a government, we have the responsibility to harness the resources of the state and bring about a new lease of life and a stable political environment to meet the expectations of our people’’.
He charged the new member to justify the confidence reposed in him by working assiduously to achieve the corporate goal of the commission, even as he also advised him to pursue his task with the required diligence to demonstrate to the people that his appointment was no fluke.
Responding, Agbeotu thanking the governor for the appointment, pledging that he would never fail in the trust reposed in him.
